WAVERLY, Iowa -- Trine's Kara Eck earned All-America honors with a fifth-place finish in the hammer throw Saturday at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field National Championships at Wartburg College.
Eck (Auburn, Ind. / DeKalb) unleashed a throw of 180 feet, 10 inches (55.13 meters) to earn the first Outdoor All-America honors of her career. The sophomore has now won three All-America honors overall in her two-year career. Eck's performance today was just shy of her own school-record set a week ago. She came into the weekend seeded seventh in the event.
With the performance, Eck became the first field athlete in Trine women's track and field history to earn two All-America honors during the same school year. Eck previously placed fourth in the shot put to earn All-America recognition during the indoor season.
Eck wraps up the season having earned four national championship bids during the 2015-16 school year. Yesterday, Eck placed ninth in the shot put at the Outdoor Track and Field National Championships.
